Privacy Statement
Basically, I promise not to do creepy stuff.
mildlydiverting.com is a website set up and managed by Kim Plowright (I, me, my) to promote my work. I am a sole trader, not a registered company. This means I am the Data Controller for this site.
I use a lot of different services to make this website work, including:
Squarespace
Squarespace Analytics,
Squarespace Newsletter platform,
Adobe Fonts,
Google Fonts,
Instagram embeds,
Google Spreadsheets,
Google ReCaptcha v2/v3
Squarespace, Instagram and Google are therefore probably Data Processors, as they manage the data from these tools on my behalf, governed by the contracts I have with them, and their terms of service.
Cookies
The services I use to run the site may also set Cookies on the site. Using Cookies helps me and the website to:-
remember if you’ve ticked the cookie opt in!
make forms work properly on the site
get pseudonymised statistics through Squarespace Analytics that help me understand how many people are visiting the site, and what they’re looking at. This helps me do things like improve the site, spot any technical problems, and write funding applications or reports for my art practice based on ‘engagement’ figures.
The personal data Squarespace Analytics collects is:
Information about your browser, network, and device
Web pages you visited prior to coming to this website
Your IP address
This information may also include details about your use of this website, including:
Clicks
Internal links
Pages visited
Scrolling
Searches
Timestamps
You can find out more about the cookies that Squarespace sets, what they do, and how long they persist in their Cookie Help Area and Cookie Policy.
These functional and required cookies are always used, to allow Squarespace to securely serve the website.
These analytics and performance cookies are used if you click ‘Accept’ on our cookie banner.
I may also embed content from social media sites like Instagram, YouTube, Vimeo or Twitter. These sites may set their own 3rd party social cookies. If you disable them, this embedded content might not work properly.
The ICO Website has good information about what cookies are, and how to opt out of them in your browser and across other websites.
How I manage your data
If you use the contact form, it will send an email to my main email address, and also store your information and message in a Google spreadsheet. This spreadsheet is held in a folder in my personal Google Drive account, accessable only when I’m securely signed in to my Google account.
My email is provided by Ionos, and I also access it through Google Mail. My email client may keep a record of your email address so it can autocomplete things as I type. If we end up working together, I am likely to store your details in my Contacts app, from where they will sync to my other devices via Google’s servers.
I will review and delete records in the contacts spreadsheet regularly, and will not keep them longer than 12 months unless we have an ongoing business or personal relationship. (If you say really nice things, I might save quotes with your name a bit longer so I can use them to cheer myself up when I’m writing those darn applications. If we’re having a personal relationship, there’s a WHOLE LOT of stuff we need to talk about at that point anyway.)
If you opt in to recieve my newsletter either via a form, when you send me a message, or by giving me your details in writing at an event I will add your name and email to the Squarespace Newsletter platform manually. I will record the method you used to opt in; I get very annoyed when people sign me up to newsletters without asking nicely, so I would hope I remember to treat you in the way I’d like to be treated.
Squarespace Newsletter platform will store a record of your Name and Email address, and if you have opted in to recieve the email newsletter. You can unsubscribe from the newsletter using a link in every email, or by contacting me directly.
If you want to access, correct, or delete your personal data, (that is, to make a ‘Subject Access Request’) you can email me on kim@mildlydiverting.com and I’ll sort it out. Please put Subject Access Request in the subject of your email.
If you do not feel I have handled your request or your data properly, you have a right to complain to the Data Comissioner at the ICO. I’d appreciate if you tried to sort it out with me, first, though, because I’m trying very hard to be considerate and do the right thing, and I am just a person, not a big company.
